Directions: You have created a Concept Map for "Algebra" as it relates to the algebra courses you teach. Many of you have related it to various NCTM strands, Maryland/other state standards, general reasoning skills (e.g. problem-solving), and other key aspects of an algebra course (by which we include Pre-Algebra, and various flavors of first and second year Algebra).
You have now also had a time to look over and reflect upon the Concept Maps created by your classmates. Some of them teach algebra at the same level as you do; others teacher courses that are prerequisites to yours, or for which the courses you teach are prerequisites. Some are in your own county, others are from other counties or even another state.
Discuss in your group issues including at least the following (expanding to others issues if you have more time): Share with others: What was your own thinking behind your drafting of the first Concept Map you created? How has your thinking changed about how the "middle" part of your concept map should look, after seeing other concept maps? How has your thinking changed about how the "inputs" and "outputs" portions or your Concept Map should look, after having see others' Concept Maps? How can you use the (yet to be assigned) revision/expansion of your concept map as professional development that will help you made your courses even better?
