You will:
- Choose a group of lesson plans which you have used in the past in an
algebra class (if you have not taught algebra before, see me).
Chose a reasonable length. Obviously less than a full
quarter; and probably more than a single day's material.
- You will later (i.e., this is not yet assigned a due date):
- Modify the group of lesson plans -- improved per your content
and pedagogical learnings in this course
- Implement (i.e., 'teach') the modified segment/unit per your
the new group of lesson plans.
- You may may meet with me. You will
put into a special group of lesson plans part of your Portfolio, (a) The old
group of lesson Plans, (b) The modified version (c) A short narrative (at least
half a page; no more than two pages) summarizing how it went.
- You are encouraged to work in pairs (preferable
to groups of 3 or more; but not mandatory).
- Have either your partner in the pair, or else someone else you
are comfortable with (another teacher in your school, the math
supervisor, or a person of your choosing) sit in on your teaching of
the modified lesson plan. They will write a half page to a page long
narrative with as a constructive view from someone else's eyes that
should be helpful to you as a teacher.
For discussion: Any potential problems or obstacles?
Are you ready for (A)? Do you need to consult with me before you
even start embarking on (B)? (If so, go ahead and start
working on (B), at least the first step, even though this is not yet
formally assigned).
Depending on how these go we may or may not try a second revision
of the lesson plan or a revision of other lesson plans.
