"In the past I have attempted to take many math classes both in high
school and college, but quickly dropped them because the material was
too hard for me to understand. This course was an exception for me
because it was based on quantitative literacy. I have always disliked
math for two reasons: I felt that math used extremely complicated
methods and formulas to solve problems that I felt were insignificant
and impractical. This course proved to be the opposite in which
simpler math was used to solve significant, impacting world issues as
stated by the Mathematical Association of America"

"..the area under the curve of a graph represent an amount if [y-axis
quantity] is a rate. In addition, you can find the area under the
curve without using calculus! You can estimate using lots of skinny
rectangles..
..I found this idea very moving: the idea that our [non-renewable]
resources are finite and we cannot ever increase our area under the
curve. The longer we put off conserving our previous resources, the
harder we are going to be hit when we finally reach peak. This idea is
very unsettling to me and I think its something that everyone should
understand" -Student B
