Some Problems/Challenges:

  • Don't get into (lengthy) private dialogues
Bring in questions from Cover Sheets for discussion with entire class.

  • Don't slip into "lecture"
It can be tempting to go into a long lecture in response to mistakes or
    questions in the Cover Sheets.

  • Students Need Nudging to be Specific
You may need to remind students: "don't just tell me you 'finally understand X!' --
spell out specifically what you know!" The same goes for 'I don't understand Y'.

  • Students May Loose Sight of Purpose
You may need to remind students: "don't just tell me 'I finally understand X!' and 'I'm
confused about Y' -- give each week a Summary of specific concepts learned.
    And give examples!"

    Some Possible Variations

  • Grading the Cover Sheets

  • Longer Assignments
E.g., "Summarize Chapter 2" or "What you now understand about integration".

  • Re-submitted Cover Sheets
In which students respond to your comments on first draft by elaborating -- answering your
questions, adding more detail and examples, etc. -- in the following drafts.
