This week I have learned that there are always several ways to solve a
problem, especially word problems. this concept is very important
because different students learn differently and it is important to be
able to help each student learn. For example, with the "pig and
chicken" problem, I learned to solve it with pictures, which I had not
thought of while I was solving it on my own. On my own, I solved it
algebraically using two equations and two unknowns. Also, problems that
I solved using pictures on my own were presented algebraically by
another class member. --Jennie
* Among the things I have learned this week, is that you must think
through all word problems. What first comes into your head, may or may
not be correct. I have learned how to do the pig and chicken problem
accurately. (I think) -- Robin
In this past week I have learned to feel more confident about word
problems and teaching them to little children. I am able to
explain word problems using many different solutions and am able
to explain them in words that another person would understand.

I realized that I had not forgotten
everything I had learned prior to this class. I feel confident
attacking problems but I am finding it very difficult to explain how I
achieved my answer. I look forward to enhancing my
explanations of problems. I do have a question, is it a wrong
or bad solution if you use trial and error? I find that I tend to
do that often. I know that there are quicker ways to solving problems
but I need to visualize. --Erin
This week I have learned many things, yet I have also been confused
among some topics. During this week we have been challenged with
identifying word problems, breaking them down, and analyzing them.
For each word problem we were asked to find at least two different
ways to solve the problem and then explain explicitly how we solved
the problem.... One problem that i have is explaining
myself on how I reached the answer. This is one thing i need to
improve on and i know that as time passes it will become easier for
me. --Anne Katherine
